Thanks for the photos, they look like a modern pair by the lock nut and they should perform well. They have plenty of blade on them and if they are sharp you will have no problems chomping through multiple layers with them.

Hi Tom, I have some Kretzer 12 inch shears from 20 years ago which are beautiful in shirting but those and my 13 inch Sheffield are a bit flimsy for a lot of wool.

Hutch can you say a bit about the different hinges and lock nuts please.  Is there a great difference in function between the modern and older versions

I own a couple of pairs of modern Wiss 22w and they work really well, modern materials and good design. The old ones used a hex headed shear bolt with a hex lock nut on the other side, your pair have the modern lock nut that is flatter and easier to adjust.
