Title: Gurkha Trouser Draft
Post by: Cafe Impecunious on December 19, 2020, 09:28:39 AM
In a fit of misguided genius, I purchased three yards of 19th century French linen (as one does), with the intention of expanding my summer wardrobe, even though we are currently enduring the blessing of two feet of snow here in New England.  Therein lies the rub, as I want to make myself a pair of classic Gurkhas, only there don't appear to be any drafts available to the general amateur tailor.  A number of Big Four pleated shorts patterns, but no draft guides for tailored garments.  Would anyone be aware of a heretofore undisclosed location of a gurkha pattern draft?

Check out Folkwear Patterns and look at the Australian Bush Outfit.  The trousers have a trouser front closing flap similar to the gurkha trouser.  Since you are a beginner, I would recommend you make a classic trouser or two to get the techniques down before attempting a gurkha knock-off.  Once you have mastered trousers you can then adapt the pattern and add the details you want.

That works for me!
