Just as a favour to know who is who, would you tell us what your name was on the Cutter And Tailor forum ?
I'm still me 8)
I have migrated with the same name. :)
:)
I moved over with "Tailleuse", but may change it later.
I'm still me.
Pete aka amateursarto 😀
What exactly happened to the old forum?
Hi Pete, good to see you here. We don't know what happened, it just stopped one day. I think it had been like a ship adrift for some months as bits and pieces of it no longer worked. If it does not come back which looks likely, we are starting to have enough people here now to start reconstructing a viable forum that better suits demand.
I have used the same name. :)
I also kept my name.
Wonderfull to have this back!
My life was so empty after C&T went blanc.
Good to be back.
Hi Guys,
Its good to see both of you. :)

Yes, happy to be back. We emailed a few time's about de Rotterdamse Snijschool, wich is 90 years in existence this year.
I am Schneiderfrei - Graham Boyce.
I used to play Skat (German Card Game) with some young Ag scientists at the local University.
In skat if you are dealt a bad hand you may say "Schneider" either because your hand is as poor as a tailor or to cut yourself out of the game.
My friends used to joke that their hand was "Schneiderfrei" to indicate their hand was free of the condition of Schneider.
So I am Schneiderfrei to say my hand is not too bad.
:)
Hey Graham, good to see you here. Hopefully it won't take too long to build a great resource. Good to have you along. Tom 8)

Yes indeed, I never even knew it existed. but I went there after your recommendation.
I also discovered that the Universal Esperanto Association is in Rotterdam! Never knew that either. It's all going on in Rotterdam.
Hello! Kevin Koch here. I was and still am Kevin Koch.

Excellent, you made it here. The email was worth it.
Oh great! Now I'm addicted to this place! :)
Terri welcomed me here. Glad to see you all here.
Decided to keep Greger. Not my real name.
Welcome on board, good to see you here.
Hey Greger, great to see you found us.
tom.
I have changed to TTailor, I used to be Terri on C&T
The bad Zuschneider is also here! LOL
DZ,
Put your website URL in your signature, many people would like to see your work, if I remember correctly, you had a Facebook page as well which was good value.
same as before.
what happened to the old forum exactly? i was trying to access it all week.

:)
You know as much as we do, it just stopped.
My name on the old forum was manuhk, I was more of a lurker than a poster though.
I was Kate on the old forum - a lurker as well, only posted once I think.
Hello Hutch,
I have kept my name as I thought it would be more confusing than my name and last initial is similar to another! Good to see many others are here also.
I look forwards to viewing the posts on this forum.

Site data will be a database for the old forum and that is if it still exists which is doubtful. We had the only reference to Sator before this new forum was started but no-one has succeeded in contacting him. The rebuild has taken some incredible amount of work by a number of people and there is still more work to do. We thank you for your suggestions but as a matter of fact we don't need them, there is considerable expertise in the works to get this up and going again.
Well... I was just informed by Schneiderfrei that the Cutter & Tailor is back up and running! So we now have a bi of thinking to do..!
Yes, I just checked it out.
This changes the perspective a little. What now? Do we continue here, since it has the somewhat alternative running ethos, or is our work done? I feel somewhat deflated after all the work, even though I'm very happy to see C&T running again.
I don't believe the work has been wasted, the site is up and running, the server and software is stable and if the content is useful to members, it will have done the job. With the old forum up and running it removes the urgency and any additions can be handled at a more leisurely pace. Apart from the work to set it up, the forum does not cost me anything as I already run a programming forum on this server so there is no reason for it to disappear.
Well that's good. It's not meant to be some sort of competitor anyway. It is a good idea in case anything else should occur.
Does that mean that Sator was informed finally of the issue? Is he in contact with anyone? Perhaps a discussion of sorts needs to happen as to whether he really wants to continue or would he rather hand it all over lock stock and barrel to another group of people to run?
It was out of the blue, so it seems. Fixed and back to business as it was. I suppose there's nothing to say unless Sator himself indicates that he no longer has interest. Its return has kick-started people to begin posting again, though I think C&T going offline and people gathering here helped.
In some ways I no longer know what the craic is at C&T, who is in charge and what's supposed to happen there.
I am pleased to see it back up again as among other things it takes the load off this forum to provide what C&T used to have before it crashed. It allows this forum to work with a much wider range of people in a more diverse range of skills. We have started to see people who are highly qualified and very experienced join this forum who never posted in C&T so I think the more open and relaxed approach will work better in the long run.
I agree that a more relaxed atmosphere here is better and has brought people out of the woodwork so to speak.
I understand to a degree what Sator was trying to do, but the reality is that most enquiries were from people learning or wanting to understand things, not established trained tailors discussing amongst themselves.
it was a problem for people with experience to be upgraded as Sator was absent and no one else could do anything.
i guess we will see if anything changes there, or whether people would rather interact here.
Am I right in assuming that you will keep this running Hutch?
Yep, its on my server and I own the domain name so there is no reason to waste all of the work done so far. I think the basic idea is a good one and with continued development it willl produce good results.
I think this site is a great idea and will continue to contribute.
I still can't forget the panic and bewilderment of the other site going down, it is very sensible to have a second similar thing going on. The knowledge and communication are too valuable to leave in just one place now.

I couldn't agree more.
I was shaken by just how suddenly so much could be lost. Hutch, something's in place if you... I don't know...fall into Sydney Harbour...?
;D
Kate, I would not worry too much about that, I live about 2 miles from the closest part of the harbour. :P

Love it, fall into the harbour. Maybe into the Dawn Fraser Swimming Pool?

I'm one of the aforementioned members who came out of the woodwork here rather than on the cutter and tailor forum. I can't really put my finger on it why, other than I often didn't like the tone there. I feel more comfortable here (and of course on the Stitcher's Guild forums) than on any other sewing relayed site.
Hutch, I think you did a fabolous job here :)
