Title: How to tailor a woman's suit
Post by: pfaff260 on May 15, 2016, 03:40:01 PM

Found this at last on the net as an E-book. You can download it as an PDF. It dates from 1946. But the basic techniques haven't changed much.

That book is great, it gives a bit more info than the coat patterns from around that time do. I love its instructions on how to fit a collar - if it doesnt look right, take it off and do it again!! hahaha!!

One thing I quickly realized when I began to read proper tailoring stuff was that tailors never count their stitches. :)

Ive just made a tailors ham using the pattern in the back of that book. Its a good size, about double the size of the ones you can find in sewing stores, with one relatively pointed end. It fit 1kg of pine shavings, but Ill have to add more as it compacts over the next couple of weeks so I think it will eventually weight up to 1.5kg.
