Title: Sale by Darren Beaman
Post by: Henry Hall on March 19, 2016, 03:05:00 AM
Just as a heads up, Darren Beaman is selling off a fairly wide range of Huddersfield cloth from £10 a metre.

I just received my order today, I only made it just more than a week ago.

The cloth - tweed check - is great.  A beautiful handle and lovely restrained colours.  By saying that I mean that the colours in the cloth are not quite as vivid as the website suggests, at least under our bleaching, yellow sun :)

Anyway I am very happy I bought it.  Darren was very cool to deal with. You may need to contact him directly to arrange shipping to some countries.

5 mtr was 50 pounds and postage was 40 pounds, that's comparable to the ebay British Fabric seller.  The stuff weighs a fair bit.

I am working on waistcoats at the moment.  The rest will go into storage for a Sakko one day

That's a lot for postage, though - I would want a cheaper option, or I'm out. I'll have to email them and ask. Happy to wait a few weeks.

It might seem steep, but it's the price based upon weight. It's the Post Office's charge rather then Darren Beaman's, so there's no way around it. Think about it this way though: if you buy the same quality cloth from another British source the postage will be the same, but the base cloth price will be 10 times as much as is on offer here.

International postage from both the UK and US has become a lot more expensive in the last couple of years. A year or so ago I bought a pair of Heinisch shears from the UK for 50 UK pounds and got charged 62 pounds to air freight it here to Australia.

What I meant to say was his postage is comparable to the ebay guy and is undoubtedly fair but the cloth price is incomparably low.

I will have a bit of time tomorrow and post a photo.  The handle is lovely.
