Title: Dapper cycling cap
Post by: EvanTA on January 26, 2024, 08:55:35 AM
I have started working with someone who is teaching me pattern drafting and construction, but while I slowly chip away at that I wanted a side project so I made myself a cycling cap for my bike commute. I'm dressed for an office so wanted something a little smarter than most cycling caps, and I have a big head (hat size around 7.5 US) so most caps out there, even L/XL ones, feel too small. I drew the patterns from scratch and it took a few mockups and revisions before I'd dialed in the fit and I could try it with this flannel. I liked a three panel design for it, and put two darts on each side so the side panels are shaped nicely. I am very happy with the fit. There are some areas of the construction I would approach differently in a future version, and I have some more technical fabrics on the way that I'll use to add a headband liner and a wool/fleece ear cover extension, but overall very happy.
