the book I have is called "The Art of Kiltmaking" by Elsie Stuemeyer c.2001
http://www.amazon.com/Art-Kiltmaking-Barbara-Tewksbury/dp/0970375107 (http://www.amazon.com/Art-Kiltmaking-Barbara-Tewksbury/dp/0970375107)
very extensive information about the proper ways to lay out and calculate the pleating depending on the woven  pattern and the complete and proper making up process, by a master kiltmaker.
(5 year apprenticeship I think)
