Site data will be a database for the old forum and that is if it still exists which is doubtful. We had the only reference to Sator before this new forum was started but no-one has succeeded in contacting him. The rebuild has taken some incredible amount of work by a number of people and there is still more work to do. We thank you for your suggestions but as a matter of fact we don't need them, there is considerable expertise in the works to get this up and going again.

Well... I was just informed by Schneiderfrei that the Cutter & Tailor is back up and running! So we now have a bi of thinking to do..!

This changes the perspective a little. What now? Do we continue here, since it has the somewhat alternative running ethos, or is our work done? I feel somewhat deflated after all the work, even though I'm very happy to see C&T running again.

I don't believe the work has been wasted, the site is up and running, the server and software is stable and if the content is useful to members, it will have done the job. With the old forum up and running it removes the urgency and any additions can be handled at a more leisurely pace. Apart from the work to set it up, the forum does not cost me anything as I already run a programming forum on this server so there is no reason for it to disappear.

Well that's good. It's not meant to be some sort of competitor anyway. It is a good idea in case anything else should occur.

Does that mean that Sator was informed finally of the issue? Is he in contact with anyone? Perhaps a discussion of sorts needs to happen as to whether he really wants to continue or would he rather hand it all over lock stock and barrel to another group of people to run?

Henry Hall

It was out of the blue, so it seems. Fixed and back to business as it was. I suppose there's nothing to say unless Sator himself indicates that he no longer has interest. Its return has kick-started people to begin posting again, though I think C&T going offline and people gathering here helped.

In some ways I no longer know what the craic is at C&T, who is in charge and what's supposed to happen there.

I am pleased to see it back up again as among other things it takes the load off this forum to provide what C&T used to have before it crashed. It allows this forum to work with a much wider range of people in a more diverse range of skills. We have started to see people who are highly qualified and very experienced join this forum who never posted in C&T so I think the more open and relaxed approach will work better in the long run.

I agree that a more relaxed atmosphere here is better and has brought people out of the woodwork so to speak.
I understand to a degree what Sator was trying to do, but the reality is that most enquiries were from people learning or wanting to understand things, not established trained tailors discussing amongst themselves.
it was a problem for people with experience to be upgraded as Sator was absent and no one else could do anything.
i guess we will see if anything changes there, or whether people would rather  interact here.
Am I right in assuming that you will keep this running Hutch?

hutch--

Yep, its on my server and I own the domain name so there is no reason to waste all of the work done so far. I think the basic idea is a good one and with continued development it willl produce good results.

I think this site is a great idea and will continue to contribute.

I still can't forget the panic and bewilderment of the other site going down,  it is very sensible to have a second similar thing going on.  The knowledge and communication are too valuable to leave in just one place now.

I was shaken by just how suddenly so much could be lost. Hutch, something's in place if you... I don't know...fall into Sydney Harbour...?

 ;D

Kate, I would not worry too much about that, I live about 2 miles from the closest part of the harbour.  :P
