Wiss model 20w 10 inch dressmaker's shears

Some years ago I bought 4 pairs of this model from an antique dealer who had in turn bought them from a retired dress maker. 3 of the pairs had never been used even though they would have been purchased back in the late 1940s - early 1950s. The reason for posting these photos is they are excellent trimmers and while the model was made from the 1920s onwards, they are not heirlooms like the big iron shears.

These are light enough to use as trimmers, not just on a table and if they are sharp, they are very grunty through multiple level seams yet well suited for very fine cranky fabrics. This model is an American made pair from New Jersey but the modern ones made in central America work just as well. Often you can pick up a very good pair on eBay for peanuts and if you get them sharpened properly they will last you many years. Avoid any that have had too much ground off the blades.
