This online textile dictionary gives a brief overview of different types of cloth. I found it useful to find the modern term for cloth mentioned in an old book. The little letters under the header will take you to the different pages (though not all have letters at the top, so favourite this home page):

That's a great link! Never heard of them before, but some nice cloth in their selection.

Same here Gerry. I only actually found out about them yesterday through a Gentleman's Gazette video I was watching. I think the video was called "how to beat the heat in style"? Anyway, in one of the skits they do,  one of the hosts was holding a bunch/sample book that had these seersuckers and linens. It's a pretty good video to watch in general IMO.
