Picked these up for peanuts, $35.00 AUD. I needed a big pair of shears to keep on my computer table so I could open packaging and while these are not rare classics like the inlaid Wiss and Heinisch, they are robust with decent blade material, a Wiss pattern from the late 1940s to early 1950s with forge welded iron handles.

If you just use the vingear on the handles.  On the blades it destroys the integrity of the carbon steel. ;(

Magic rule, never never never soak old shears in anything that is supposed to remove rust, it will pick holes all over the shears. You could use them as garden stakes or a weapon against intruders but they will never be any use as shears after you do that.

Anything old has malleable iron handles that are forge welded to the high carbon steel blades and the best way to clean them up is to mechanically scrub the rust off them and use files to smooth and shape them.
