hello, another avid home sewer here. While my pedigree is impeccable (my mother was couture trained) it didn't occur to me to learn how to sew until not long before she died. So I'm not one of those people who can say I learned how to sew at a very young age from my mother blah blah. Much to her chagrin. But what I did inherit from her was an appreciation of fine fabrics, good fit and beautifully structured clothes. I've been very lucky to find a teacher since then who is as pedantic and methodical as she was, where I am learning patternmaking, which is fascinating and fun. I've made all sorts of clothes over the years, but particularly enjoy making coats and jackets (my aim is to make a traditional jacket using sew in interfacing for my long suffering hubby), evening wear with lots of inner structure, and anything just outside of my skill set to keep me on my toes. I'm currently attempting a traditional tutu, which is nicely challenging. I'm here to learn and don't feel I can offer much in the way of sage advice to anyone. I'd love to go to Ireland and do Rory's tailoring if I didn't live on the other side of the world . Maybe I can convince the tutu teenager to study dance in the UK and give me the excuse I need to go over there.
